Star Power
The event featured performances by Canadian stars like K.D. Lang, above, Nelly Furtado and Bryan Adams.
Night Sky
During the performance a night sky filled with the aurora borealis and an enormous spirit bear gave way to ocean depths.
Fiddlin'
At one point the stadium was filled with hundreds of tap dancers and dancing fiddlers.
On Fire
The Olympic flame was lit by Canadian hockey great Wayne Gretzky.
Finale
Gretzky subsequently lit an external cauldron and carried it from BC Place to the Vancouver waterfront, where it will burn for the entire 17 days of the Games.
