Joyner, during his speech at the Fayetteville State University Chancellor's luncheon, said the online school would be called HBCUOnline.com and would open its doors to new students as early as January 2011.
"What I did today was very premature,'' Joyner told The Fayetteville Observer. "But we formed the company at the beginning of the year, and we met with Chancellor (James A.) Anderson and others, and we're putting it together right now. We'll start seeing the marketing materials in the summer."
The program would cater to a demographic of African-American students who need a flexible curriculum. Joyner said HBCUOnline would be similar to the University of Phoenix but would offer the "black college experience."
