Florida megachurch pastor Joel Hunter told Christianity Today today in an e-mail that he has left the Republican Party.

Christian philanthropist Howard Ahmanson left the GOP to become a Democrat in May 2009.For 40 years I was a registered Republican like Paul was a registered Pharisee after he became a follower of Christ - when it furthered the agenda of the Gospel (as I understood it) then I was active as a Rep. When it didn't, I wasn't.I was never comfortable being identified with a political Party but the hyper-partisanship and the outside voices hijacking legitimate political debate is not something of which I will be a part.
CT has profiled Hunter and interviewed him several times in the past about his relationship with President Obama.
